Job Instruction

 

OBJECTIVES

  • To help participants recognise the opportunities which exist for training members of their teams
  • To consider the importance of establishing clear learning outcomes
  • To provide participants with a systematic approach to job instruction taking into account different learning styles
  • To give them practice in applying that approach

 

RUNNING TIME

Depending on the program, this can be run from 2-4 hours

 

 

SUMMARY OF CONTENT

  • Participants are encouraged to think in terms of the required outcomes from any training opportunity: “What do we want people to do differently as a result of this coaching/training exercise?
  • A distinction is made between the objectives of this module and the separate modules on delegation and coaching
  • The concept of recognising different learning styles and selecting the appropriate delivery techniques to make training effective
  • A model for designing a training session is introduced
  • A five step model of job instruction is examined and opportunity provided to practice some skills
  • Checklists and reminders are provided to take away and apply
